Greek school opens its door to Europe

On 19 March and 12 April, the 1st Gymnasium of Vyronas in Greece hosted two special events and received a number of European and local guests, as part of the “Back to School” campaign.

During the first Spring Day event, the Gymnasium welcomed Giannis Coccalas, Director of the office of the European Parliament in Greece, Mr Daniil, local bishop, and Nikos Chardalias, Mayor of Vyronas. In the light of 2010, the European year against poverty and social exclusion, twenty students of the school presented their works, focusing on the European Union in general and the efforts to erase racism and discrimination.


The second event was marked by the presence of Giannis Marinos, former member of the European Parliament. The invitee explained the importance of the European Union and the way it works. Students asked several questions and the discussion touched on economic aspects as well as the future of Europe.
